What is the Om Symbol?

Om (also spelled Aum) is a sacred sound, mantra, and sacred glyph that originates from ancient Indian scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, and Tantras. The symbol itself is typically depicted as a curved shape resembling a downward-pointing triangle on top, a rounded middle, and a downward-pointing lotus petal at the base—each segment symbolizing different aspects of existence.
